Stylish jet black leather armchairs surround the circular glass dining room table while subtle pieces of furniture are located to the left side of the room. The random tiled limestone flooring along with the glass view doors surrounding the room go well with the circular raised ceiling that holds up the beautiful crystal chandelier. Sophistication and style are the two main points of this dining room design.
Wow I love this transformation!! Your dining room is beautiful and you have such a great story behind it. My husband and I bought a log cabin-style home (our first home!) and we have pine boards just like yours throughout our house. Are you glad you painted them white? Would you recommend doing that throughout the house and leaving the pine trim in it’s original state? Do you mind sharing which white paint you chose?

DO make the new design functional. Yes, looks are important, but if this remodel that you’ve invested tons of time and money into doesn’t make logical sense, you will regret it.  Your remodeled space needs to be a proper working kitchen. Good architectural design “solves functional requirements first and aesthetics second. A good working floor plan allows you to live in your house with ease and comfort; it will function properly and help make your remodeled home feel and look appropriate”.
Would you have ever known a hot tub used to be sunken in the floor where our dining room table sits? This transformation made our home into a space I enjoy daily. Being able to see out our large picture windows in both the dining room and living room was only made possible by removing the wall to transform the space into an open concept. I can’t imagine it any other way now.
A trio of neutral colors and subtle shapes make up the room décor of this fresh country look. A candlestick chandelier is the focal point hanging over a spindle leg dining table and matching two-seater bench. Two eccentric ladderback chairs grace one side of the table and two soft side chameleon chairs with pillows demand room attention on each end.

Oinks, clucks, and moos give this delicately stressed white-washed plaque a hefty desire to find itself in the center of a country-themed kitchen. Placed against a wooden fresco caged bird painting and standing next to a spiny bird’s nest floral design holding two beautiful pale blue robin eggs, the plaque is an absolute statement in the cycle of nature.
Liven up your space by featuring pretty prints on rugs, window treatments, pillows nad more. Block print dhurrie rugs can command a pretty penny. To get the look for less, use a pretty wall stencil to apply a pattern to a large piece of artist canvas or drop cloth with a foam stencil brush. For an 8' by 10' rug, you'll need about a quart of standard interior paint in a satin finish. Wash stencil every other use to keep paint from clumping and elaving unwanted marks on the rug.

2. Honesty is the Best Policy – A common aspect of architectural design that the most critical designers look out for is a space’s sincerity. A lot of commercial fads in construction make it such that materials are easily replicated and installed for the cheap, but what you will want to go for is timelessness. Go for natural materials or as natural as you can get them; try to avoid cheap “faux” materials that most stores would love to sell you.
After all of the major elements of the project were complete it was up to me to put it all back together! We painted the pine boards white to mimic shiplap and brighten the space. My husband replaced the dated outdoor sconces with these modern farmhouse sconces. Finally, the rest of the project was all about decorating and making the space a functional family dining room.
Inspired by the lush landscape just outside the windows (which were salvaged from an old train depot!), the homeowner of this 105-year-old Victorian farmhouse filled the dining room with rustic wood elements and pops of green. The Beech wishbone chairs, which are lacquered in an apple green, pop against the large antique hutch that stores the homeowner's collection of copper Moscow mule mugs and green and white china. A pale pink Oriental rug with subtle hints of sky blue and chartreuse rounds out the mix.

Hi Larson! Thank you so much for your kind words! I am, indeed, soooo glad we painted them white! It modernized the space so much. I love your idea of painting them and leaving the trim. If you don’t love wood trim you could always paint that as well. It is totally your preference. Just be prepared for a lot of work! If you are doing the whole house a sprayer might be recommended. 😉 I used the color Shiplap by Magnolia/Kilz Brand. It is a softer white with grey undertones and is lovely. I hope you love your transformation!
Start with a concrete idea of what you want the dining room to be at the end of the design process. At this point, be as wild and imaginative as you can. And then, like carving a masterpiece out of a block of wood, slowly chip away the ideas that don’t go well with the overall theme you are trying to pull. Keep refining and keep simplifying until you are left with a design that would make seasoned interior designers proud.
